Concert
Under the baton of João Carlos Martins, the evening begins with Gregorian Chant, with a special appearance by tenor Jean William, and moves through different periods in the history of music, including the Renaissance, Baroque, Romanticism, and 20th-century music. Highlights include Bransle de la Torche by Michael Praetorius, Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach, and Waltz No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
One of the central moments of the concert will be the performance of the Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, featuring four of its best-known movements: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Trepak, Chinese Dance, and Waltz of the Flowers. Originally composed for ballet, the work has become one of the greatest musical symbols of the Christmas season.
